Hello Sergey, Thank you for taking the time to comment on my photo. This opportunity occurred after a long day at the zoo, near the backyard fence. We had walked as far back as we cared to to photograph the Lions, but then we saw the Giraffe enclosure. A rather brisk climb up hill to be at Giraffe head level and this little girl was all ready to feed salad the the first one to arrive.

Artist's Description

The giraffe family here at the Santa Barbara Zoo is just a small part of the population of 104 Masai giraffes that live at 28 accredited zoos in North America. Since Michael is the most genetically valuable male Masai giraffe anywhere outside of Africa, our Zoo plays an important role in the overall population. This is why our adorable calves go off to start herds of their own (at other AZA-accredited zoos) and contribute their valuable genetics to the overall population.

The feeding deck provides a chance for visitors to feed the Giraffes lettuce on scheduled time during the day.

My next acquisition was in the early 1980s with an Olympus OM-4, 35mm Single Lens Reflex camera and several accessory lens attachments. I also purchased my first chemical darkroom and equipment to print all my images. I was a big user of Kodak Kodacolor, and Kodak Ektachrome. During this time I worked as an independent contractor providing photographic services to sporting events to wedding dates. Now retired from the daily...
